Andy3435's Full Review: Star Wars Episode I: Racer for Nintendo 64
The game is based in the Star Wars universe we all know and love. You take control of young Anikin Skywalker (or one of 20 something other racers) as he races on lots of different worlds in preparation for the race we see in the movie.
THE GOOD:
The graphics in the game are great especially if you use the expansion pack. The designers did a great job making me feel as though I'm going 600mph without making everything feel rushed.
The sound in the game is decent. The actual music is awesome, (what else would you expect from Star Wars) but the rest of the sound falls short. For instance the sound of the engines on your pod racer is really bad if you've seen the movie, I was looking forward to hearing Sebulbas train sounding pod. The speech is ok, even though it gets kind of annoying hearing the same thing over and over.
The control of your podracer was excellent, good response time and all that other stuff
THE BAD
MUCH MUCH TOO SHORT. Absolutely no replay value whatsoever despite a 2 player versus mode and the many tracks available. The game would have been MUCH better suited for arcades. In basic, it got boring, the AI was either too hard or too easy, I never found myself challenged at the right level. And even if you spent forever finishing a hard track, theres no reward for your efforts. WOW, a new toy to add to my collection of useless podracers. You switch pods maybe 3 times in the game because most of the pods are exactly the same or very similiar.
SUMMARY
Don't pay full price for this game, if you find it for less than $20 or $30 and are looking for some quick entertainment that won't last get it.
