sparke61's Full Review: Xena Warrior Princess for Nintendo 64
I'm a huge fan of the televison show Xena: Warrior Princess, so when I discovered the Nintendo 64 game by the same name I promptly went out and purchased it. And brought it home and tried it out.
The graphics were okay--about the same as any other 3-D fight game of the same genre, but the sound wasn't as good--the game creators didn't even try for any "realism" to the characters sounds. Game play was all right but the "adventure" mode of the game was simply the character I chose having to fight every other available character and then one last Big Boss before winning the game. There were other variations of the game but all of them included fighting other characters in one form or another--not very exciting.
Mastering the fighting aspect of the game wasn't very difficult. With a few test rounds one can easily figure out the different special talents each character has. After that, it's anyone's guess as to which person will win each fight as skill doesn't seem to come into play very much.
I also noticed an irritating tendency for the sound to quit out at random. It would only come back on if I stopped the game and restarted it.
The only fun aspect of the game came from pitting the same character against him/herself. For example, if both my friend and I chose to have Xena fight for us, we'd get different aspects of Xena--one would be Xena in the classic Warrior Princess costume, one would be Harem Xena. This could go on for up to four different characters.
So, in conclusion, I'd rate the game as follows, using the 1-5 scale:
Graphics--3
Adventure mode--2
Fight mode--4
Sound--3
Over all gameplay--3
At best I found this to be a mediocre game, good for some diversion but not really very exciting. I'd suggest picking up a good quality copy on eBay for as cheap as you can get it.
