Total Air War is one of the best Air Combat simulation games. You fly an F-22 Raptor in different missions. Whether your mission is to attack, or defend, you can customize the weapons you choose to bring along on the mission.
Not only does TAW let you fly the F-22, but it also lets you control the big screens onboard the AWACS. The AWACS is the airborn command center. In it, you can direct your different planes to intercept enemies that are getting close, or you can tell them to attack a certain point, the best part is, you can double click onto any of the F-22 on screen and jump right into the cockpit! So if you ever see a situation where an F-22 is dogfighting multiple bogies and you don't think it'll last, you can jump right in and level the situation yourself! After you're done, you can click Esc. twice and return to the AWACS.
TAW gives you training missions for every feature in the game. From Take-off / Landing to Dog Fighting. These training missions prepare you to take on the real challenge of the game. The MISSIONS!
There are different campaign scenarios and complete sets of missions in each campaign ranging from easy to difficult. Each mission that you accept runs in real time. You do not control how the war goes, but rather as an F-22 pilot, you contribute to the determination of the outcome of the war.
Custom combat allows you to choose different enemy units as well as allies and play against the computer. You can also connect to other players through the internet, or through LAN connection. I've played a few missions with my brother over LAN and is it ever FUN!
Along with such an advanced game comes a thick instructions manual and also a large amount of controls you need to know in for enhanced game play. Compared to the newer games, TAW doesn't have too much controls for you to memorize, but rather a moderate amount. At first it may seem like it'll take forever for you to know all the controls, but the diagram displaying the controls on an illustrated keyboard can be placed right in front of you, so that you can learn the controls while playing! Trust me, once you play it a few times, you'll get the hang of it!
If you're a big time Air Combat Sim. Gamer, this one is a MUST have game! Try it out! you won't be disappointed. The amount of thought, planning and realism incorporated into the game will amaze you.
Now that I've finished with the technics of the game, let me assure you that your computer will most likely be able to handle this game.
