This game was a lot of fun for around a week. The plot is ok as long as you don't fall off track but if you do get stumped, it may be difficult to progress through the chapters. Many of the set fights are overly challenging, causing you to abuse the save and reload feature. Some of my friends were NEVER able to beat some of the set fights. Exploring the world is great fun for a while, but seems to become tedious after the first time around. I will recommend this game to people that are interested in the genre, but not to hard core D&D rules sticklers. This game does make a pretense of using D&D rules, but there are hundreds of deviations from them that a stickler would find annoying.
Through the course of the game your characters will meet famous characters from various forgotten realms books. Drizzt, Elminster, and Volo will all be found by the adventurous. You can actually kill Drizzt in this game, but Elminster and Volo are strangely immune to any attempt on their lives. Power gamers will love to play through this game again and again untill all of their stats are maxed out at 25's and they have found Baldur's cloak and Baldur's helm and use Drizzt's +5 defender sword. People more like me will play it and beat it once in a week, having never found many of the unique items, and really having no desire to.
The sounds made by your compatriots are annoying and repetitive for the most part, and fights are seldom balanced. You will typically find yourself winning easily, or having to do the same fight over and over again. Enemy AI is not scripted perfectly, and some fights become laughably easy if you can take advantage of this. This is a game you will want to borrow from a friend for sure, but you probably will get no joy out of owning it. Abusable glitches also take all joy out of the money system...and why can a character carry so much gold?
