At first I was a little skeptical about this game. I was in Best Buy (a local store that sells games, computers, music, etc.) browsing the games that they had on the shelves. I saw a box with a skull on and it said. Baldur's Gate. I play AD&D and i wasn't too fond of the Forgotten Realms division of AD&D at the time. So i picked up the box and looked at the pictures. Well, it seemed to be another Diablo clone, but I liked the way the graphics looked. Being an AD&D fan i bought the game. I got home and installed the game (All 5 CDs). I pressed the Play Button, and I was AMAZED. I enjoy this game still, from the first time i saw the opening FMV to the ending FMV.
What I really found interesting about the game is the character creation system. Its the traditional AD&D method of Strenght, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. And lets not forget alignment (which does have a big impact on the game).
The graphics are very good for this type of game. And the game is not a 'Diabloish Clickfest'. You can pause the game and plan out what you want to do in battles.
Character dialog is very intricate, which adds much to the plot and story.
With many character classes, spells, and races, the replay value is VERY high.
And to add to the mood of the game, the music is superb
