SKeLeToR's Full Review: Classic Arcade for Windows
This game will blow you away! the graphics aren't much compared to games like Quake but there is much more action going on in battlezone and for a strategy game, the graphics are stupendous. you see all the 3d action and it didn't even slow down my 233mhz pII, 32mb ram, 4mb video card computer! most games do, but not this one. the single player missions are exciting as well. it's not just kill kill kill. in one of them, you have to use a sniper rifle to take out an enemy pilot and hop in his ship and impersonate him so you can intercept vital data. and to complete these missions, there are 10 attacking ships and 4 defending ship at yoru disposal. not to mention the lumbering walker that's too heavy to fly but packs a *HUGE* punch. if you want to play over the internet, it's great as well. all of the arena's have powerups which could give you double mag cannons(2 shot kills), or double hornets(homing missiles). and the lag over the internet is surprisingly low. in an arena with over 30 players, i saw no lag whatsoever on my 56k modem. my friend plays on his 33.6 modem and saw similar results. he lagged a bit in the games over 20 players but normally he was fine.
the fun thing about internet play is that you can play a strategy match(with bases) or an allout deathmatch with up to 32 players per arena duking it out. you can ally with other players and gang up on others to make it even more interesting. i highly reccomend this game as there are no major (or minor) design flawsreadily visible.
