JosephR's Full Review: Beach Head 2000 for Windows
For the record, I was a huge fan of Beachhead and Beachhead 2 for the Commodore 64 (there was a Beachhead 3 if I remember correctly but I never got to play it).
In Beachhead 2000 you're a stationary object that can scroll around and shoot stuff. There's no crosshairs to help (don't most real gun turrets have crosshairs?) and once you run out of bullets the game is over. The graphics and sound are pretty good for 1998, and not that bad today but it's not hardware-accelerated which is the state-of-the-art today.
The main thing I didn't like is you start out on the beach and can't proceed to level 2 until you kill everything on the beach (though there are cheat settings to help if you search the net for Beachhead 2000 cheat codes, and once you get past level 1 you can save the game). Even with the cheat codes I only got to level 3. The first three levels were all on the same beach, too - just different targets (i.e. soldiers to helicopters to planes to both). Are all 60 levels just this???? If not, it's not worth it because the first few are too hard to get through to get at them.
I would've liked to have seen a crosshairs option, bigger targets (I don't like pixel hunts), a "jump-to-level" option, and accelerated graphics.
I don't recommend this game. It's fun to shoot stuff but you can do that in any game. There's no reason to buy this one to be honest with you. In fact I'll dare to say the Commodore 64 games were better.
