Delta Force Land Warrior - AKA Delta Force 3 has finally arrived. Getting somewhat bored with Delta Force (the original) and not being able to stand playing Delta Force 2, we were pretty excited about the third game. After playing the demo and reading some reviews on Novaworld's web site, we decided we were not going to wait for Christmas to fork over the $40.00 bucks.

First thing I noticed about this game, was in order to play online you needed to submit the ID number that was found inside the CD case. This is to prevent the burning of the game and allowing others to play who did not purchase the game outright. The other 2 DF's did not have this. So when I want to play online, I think this will weed out many kids who just get copies of the game from their friends. Any game with less hormone enraged sarcastic kids is a good thing.
So what's new with Delta Force 3? Well I can compare it with Delta Force 1, but not at all with Delta Force 2. You see Delta Force 2 was so bad, I couldn't even make myself write a review on it. In order to do that, I would have to go back and subject myself to the torture of playing the game again to write an accurate review. Sorry, but it just wasn't going to happen.
DF 3 offers more characters with specialities. In other words, if you want to be a sniper, then you must pick the character who is good with the scope. If you pick the medical specialist and try to snipe with her character, your scope is going to move around all over the place. Same thing as if you choose the sniper character but try to be a gunner with him, he may not run as fast or be any good in close quarters battle. DF 1 or 2 did not offer this feature. In the other 2 games, you could pick any person you wanted and pick any weapon you wanted.
DF 3 offers more weapons to choose from than the other 2 games offered. They offer more explosives and more secondary weapons. But as in real life, you can only carry so much. Be careful what you choose to carry, since all this stuff will weigh you down and you may not be able to run that fast.
DF 3 is supposed to be more realistic than DF 1 or 2. It takes longer to move from the standing position to the prone position, takes longer to change the magazine in your rifle, and takes longer to switch weapons. It took awhile to get used to that feature, after all I was playing DF 1 for 8 months and being able to change magazines in a split second was a bit easier. Also a new feature is when you die or when someone else dies, they drop their weapon just like in real life. If you want to, you can pick up their weapon and use it until the ammo runs out. In DF 1 you did not have the option of being able to pick up items.
Again, like the other 2 games, you can choose to play this game as a one person game, or you can play online against other players. I still prefer to play online than the single player games. The single player games in DF 3 are a bit harder, and I have found it is just easier to play online.
With the game being so new, Novaworld does not offer as many online rooms to play in just yet. I have only seen a maximum of 6 rooms on the web site, but I have seen 20 + public games. A public game is someone who is hosting the game. Any person can host a game online, but it is recommended that you have a high speed internet connection before hosting a game. Much like DF 1, you can play deathmatch, team deathmatch, team king of the hill, seek and destroy, and my new favorite capture the flag online. A new feature offered in the games online, is that each base has an armory. So if you want to change your weapon, or get some more bullets, just stop in the armory and get what you need.
In the multi-player games, you are scored differently by what game you are playing. Which ever game you choose, you do not want to receive too many deaths. Novalogic came up with a solution to this. They now offer medics. Only downfall is that if you are playing a multi-player game, and nobody chooses the medic specialist, then there will be no medics in your game and so you will have a death against you. However, if you do get into a game with a medic, when you are shot, instead of hitting the space bar and re-spawning back into the game, you call for a medic. The medic then has 60 seconds to reach you and bandage you up. If the medic is successful, then you will not have a death counted against you in the final score.
Another new feature is they offer Voice over Net (VON). This means that if you have the means to do this with a microphone and a full duplex sound card, you can transmit messages back and forth with the other players. I have not used this feature yet, so I cannot make an accurate judgement on this.
If you liked Delta Force 1, then you will like Delta Force 3. Just remember not be turned off by it so soon, since it is supposed to be realistic. The scope moves around if you are not a sniper, and the further away you look at things, the more blurrier it gets. Get past these obstacles, and you will be fine.
A 3d Video card is required to play Delta Force Land Warrior, and it states that it is appropriate for teens and up. There is animated violence and animated blood. However, in my opinion I would rate this game for 16 years old and up, and I think I am being generous to the 16 year olds.
