Better than Mordor II, but not by much!

Written: Jan 27 '01 (Updated Jan 27 '01)
Pros:Thousands of hours of gameplay, great depth in both PC's and NPC's.
Cons:Graphics are not great. Basically just a beefed up Mordor II. Occasionally Repetetive.
The Bottom Line: Demise is great fun for everyone who likes the 'Dungeon Master' style RPG. A good way to kill an evening.

I played the original Mordor when it was first released on Windows 3.1 (way back when . . .) and absolutely loved it. When Mordor II came out, it was much the same, just a bigger database of monsters, items and spells.

Then, Mr Allen (author of Demise) added the OpenGL and made the graphics better, perhaps hoping to increase his user base. Not long afterwards, the game became 'Demise'.

If you like RPG's and like a challenge, then this is the game for you. When you first start the game, give it a chance. At first it looks a little daunting, but with half an hour or so of perseverence, you'll pick it up and the next thing you know it'll be three in the morning and you'll still be sitting in front of your computer.

Sure, it doesn't have the best graphics, in fact sometimes you just want them to go away, but, once you start bashing your way through the upper levels of the dungeon, the graphics will begin not to matter so much. Actually, some of the graphics are quite atmospheric, for example when my party was wading through some water, the floor opened up and we were all underwater surrounded by strange, unfriendly creatures. The whole effect was quite impressive!

This game will probably not appeal to anybody but RPGers but if you enjoy any kind of first person RPGs then I would highly recommend 'Demise'.
