I got into playing Final Fantasy rather unintentionally after I got hold of a TV, playstation and FF7 my friend had lent to me. One day I was bored so I started playing FF7 without any intention of playing longer than to rid of my boredom. But to my surprise I had played that game for about 10 hours straight by the time I let go of the controller. Whew!!! It was one of the best games I had ever played. When FF8 came out I was really "stoked" about it. I had seen the Playstation version and expected it to be even better than 7. Installing the game was rather long on my computer (450, 96meg ram, trident cyberblade video); maybe because I had installed optional files along with the basic files. After the installation, I had no problems with playing the game. When I first started the game I noticed a difference in upgrading weapons and how guardian forces interact with characters in this game. Weapons are upgraded to new weapons by finding certain parts and upgrading current weapon to a newer one. I found this rather tiring because some parts are extremely hard to find. Also Guardian Forces determine how powerful you get or how weak you become. Different Guardian forces add different ability to your character so you must equip characters accordingly to distribute the abilities. But you have to know that GF do not come with some abilities so you must actually learn them by obtaining AP points during battle. All in all, Guardian Forces are the most important aspect in increasing your characters powers. Secondly you must draw out magic from enemies. You have to draw out a lot of magic towards the end so this can be very annoying. Few points I liked about this game were the facts that characters actually looked like people and the graphics of guardian forces and CG movie animations were so beautifully done. Bad thing is that world terrain maps look almost disgusting to look at and the background pictures are rather poorly done considering how other games have much better background graphics. Also sound in the game becomes annoying towards the middle of the game. Anyway, despite certain flaws in the game I still played this game non-stop for a very long time. I loved this game but I have to say that Final Fantasy 7 was better in story line and playability. If you did not play Final Fantasy 7 and have a choice between 7 and 8, I would recommend 7 but if you have 7 then definitely get a hold of this game. It will keep you entertained for few...actually no....many many hours.
