Daegen's Full Review: Half-Life: Opposing Force (Add on) for Windows
If were addicted to half-life and didn't get enough of it, this addon is for you. If you never played half-life, then you obviously shouldn't care about the addon. You'll need the original half-life to play this.
You remember in the original half-life you were a scientist inside the black mesa labs when all hell breaks loose and you fight your way out. Well in this game, you are one of the military guys trying to get in. As the story goes, you are a military corporal named Adrian Shepard that is sent to the Black Mesa Research Facility to find Gordan Freeman and kill him. On your way there, the alien guys attack your helicopter and you wake up alone without any equipment. You start your mission from there. The thing that is cool about this is that even though the plot is completely different, it ties in to the original game in a lot of ways. You'll recognize a lot of the areas, and see a lot of clues that relate to Gordan's position.
There are also the expected things that come with an addon pack. New weapons, new monsters. Of course there is much more to it, since halflife was such a cool game with scripted events and puzzles, that means that the addon pack has to have them too. This addon is jam packed with surprises and puzzles that add a great deal to the plot, so that this feels like a completely new game. You know what I'm talking about. It's the stuff that made half-life great. This is one of those games where I get tired of the gameplay, but I keep playing it just to see what will happen around the corner.
As far as multiplayer goes, there is nothing really new besides a few maps. Anywho, I recommend this to anyone who thoroughly enjoyed single player halflife. I also think it would make a good gift this christmas. I got the original halflife last christmas and it was my favorite gift.
