scripter's Full Review: Might and Magic 8: Day of the Destroyer for Window...
This review is my initial review after playing for the first day. If my opinion changes, I may come back to revise or write a new one.
First off, MM8 is the latest installment of a fantastic series. Many of us have been playing MM games way back on Apple II's and 8088's. It has come a log way since then.
The latest game is using basically the same game engine as the previous game. That said some interface changes have happened, whole new races are available with spells, and I think the graphics are a bit better, especially for the items and character portraits.
The game starts of with a wonderful (I think) introduction, and a hectic start to game play... a raid is going on and there are battles every where you turn it seems. Plus this volcano keeps churning out molten lava that falls from the sky toasting whatever may be underneath. It is actually pretty fun to just watch the whole thing unfold, then search all the dead bodies for money. Of course you can help out too, and eventually you will have to, which is fun as well.
I started out as a Knight, thats right, you only start out with one character! From there others join you (be sure to stop at the Inn!). The other races I have now is a Necromancer, and a Vampire!!! very cool indeed. I have read that you can get dragons to join you, and Trolls.
The story is pretty easy to follow so far, and I have several quests to track down, in addition to my overall goals. There are even a few interesting puzzles in the game.
So in short, I recommend this to all RPG fans. Don't expect an incredible flashy engine, but do expect a good game.
