Pandemonium's Full Review: Rogue Spear Mission Pack: Urban Operations for Win...
With this addition to the series, Red Storm just got better! Again you are the leader of a covert international counter-terrorist unit ready to go anywhere in the world to rescue hostages. This is a mission pack so you do need to own and have installed Rainbow Six Rogue Spear. The best feature in this game (and all in the series) is the realism. You will find yourself while playing leaning while you are peaking around corner, jumping to the sound of a terrorist or hostage that you didn't know where there, and even getting upset when one of your unit is killed or injured. Each mission plays a part in a story line that is well described before each mission by your commander. You have the ability to look at background checks on each individuals that are your bosses, people on your team, or even the terrorist organizations. As you play and finish missions your members (which you choose yourself each mission like mission impossible) get tired, injured, killed, or even still off in the last mission you did, and not available. The AL in this game is great. For the most realism, turn off auto aim and play on expert, then you will see what's it like to really be out there for real. There really is not a game out there that will make you feel like you do while you play this game!
The differences in this version of the series are the missions with innocent bystanders that really make you watch your fire (Of course the terrorists are not affected by this). There is 2 new mini campaigns with 5 new missions and 5 classic missions from the original Rainbow Six. The biggest and best add on is that you can play more than 50 customizable missions (new and old) in different styles like the regular terrorist hunt, scout missions, and even lone wolf missions where you are on your own. You can customize these in different ways and play them in the 3 difficulty levels. There is 8 new multiplayer missions and 4 new weapons (which are good). For those of you that play with the MOD's you will love a new feature they added to make it easy to switch from one to the other. The graphics are of course even better but, it's hard to improve on a masterpiece.
The mission editor is where you will find yourself more than actually playing the missions. It goes into so much detail that you can tell each unit (you can have up to 4) where to walk, run, guard, or escort. You can tell them when to hold up and wait for your go, frag grenade a room, flash pack a room, or even just breach a room. There is a 3D effect here that you can see the place where the mission will take place from angel like you are in a helicopter. This part of the game will take some time to master but, that's half the fun going back after you have an idea and changing your mission around. You can also save each one that you create so you can go to it anytime. This is a feature that no other game out there can beat.
The graphics are unbelievable. They go into depth all the way down to seeing each person breath with their breath showing where it's cold. Its easier (at least for me) to play the game in the 1st person view. Also, more realism on what you can see around you. The 3rd person view will give you better graphics, so those that can play this view well, you will love it. You will see the spray of your bullets that you fire and even the marks on everything you hit (including the bad guys). Everything in the game from the buildings to the plants are in great detail.
The sounds and music are as good as ever. They included hot keys to tell your team what to do, so no more having to call up the orders bar. If you can, I recommend getting a head set and play this game. It really makes the game feel even more realistic than it already does.
The multiplayer mode in this game is just awesome. Easy to get to from the game. If you already have MSN gaming on your computer than you are good to o already. If not no worried, it will take you through what you need. All the options that are in the game are available here as well and even more. I do recommend not playing games with over 8 people in them unless you and the person running the game have a fast computer and Internet connection. This is just as much fun, if not better, than playing the game alone.
Don't forget you do have to have Rainbow Six Rogue Spear to play this game. The game is rated teen and is a must buy (like all of them) for everyone!
