"FOR ABDUNE!" star craft brood war
Written: May 08 '01
Pros:lots of units, three different armies.
Cons:expantion should be included... I guess.
The Bottom Line: Xeno told me not to take this thing serious, and I'm a little atomaton droid that does everything she tells me. ~AIKA
Star craft brood war is one of my all time favourete strategey war games ever, you gotta love those Protos pplz. The game is good, but it's GREAT with the expantion pack, more units, more levles, more people to conquer, more everything. If yoo like strategey war games, you'll love star craft. But one thing the game needs is some music, there's not enough sound, but the voice acting is fine so that makes up for it I suppose. Also this game was deffinetley not for younger children (such as myself... anyway) the game is rated T for a reason. But if you select the Protos race you should be fine in the "blood factor", unless of course you win all the time (but that's very unlikeley without cheat codes, wich you may find in my account). I think the game could've been ALOT better, but it's still great.
GRAPHICS: Well I will say one thing, the graphics in SCBW are much better than the ones in the origanal Star Craft. For one thing they are much more detailed and not as "blocky" as in the first one. The origianal Star Craft also didn't have as detailed as in Brood War. The newer detailed and "crisp" graphics in Brood War are deffinetley an improvement. Another thing to complement on is the more highly detailed (that word is getting annoying huh?) maps, even down to the trees and dirt. But one thing in about the graphics Brood War is the explosions, they aren't as, you know, big. They lack a certain um... "BOOM". But I guess the explosions aren't an essential in strategey war games, but it would be nice if they at least made a big crater or somthing. Oh well I can't complain, I just needed something bad to write about ; ). Other than that the graphics in Brood War are quite well done and that's the reason I am giving them a 4/5 rating.
SOUND: I love sound. SCBW has wonderfull voice acting and sound effects. The sound of dieying Tarens and exploding buildings give this game an "almost" perfect score. The ONE thing that holds the sound factor back by an inch is the music. It's not that the music is bad, it's that it's dull and boring sometimes. Let's say you're in a battle and you're winning by like 50 men but you come back to reality for a sec cause you have to use the rest room, and you're thinking, "were's the music?". There IS music but it's dull and doesn't fit with the whole, "WAR" scene. I would give the sound a perfect score for voice acting and sound effects but the music kind of cripples it. OVER ALL SOUND SCORE: 4/5 (wich is actualy good for a strategey war game ; ).
CONTROL: wow, yet ANOTHER great factor in this beutiful game. It's just like most strategey war games but a little different, not too much though. The control may be the same as most other strategey war games but that doesn't mean they don't deserve a good rating right? I think every SWG has at least a tiny bit of difference than the others. Like in SCBW, you make your men move and attack with the "right" button on your mouse other than the "left", see? amazing isn't it? Anyway, I love the controll in almost every SWG,
it gives you a sence of power, I like power. And one last thing that this game has is... a SAVE feature, no SWG is complete without a save feature! So I have come to the conclusion that the control in STBW is perfect, has no hindering faults or mistakes and deserves a perfect score! give em' a hand folks! over all ratiing: 5/5
REPLAY VALUE: Well let's see, you may pick one of three races at a time, all with there own different maps and goals, so I guess that this game would last a loooonnnngggg time before getting bored of it.Also every race's levles could take a long time to beat and there are like 150 levles or more all in all (can you truly laugh at that 3 diget number? the ansere is, NO). There isn't really much to say about this factor exept it get ANOTHER 5/5 star rating! "YAY".
OVER ALL: Star Craft Brood War is a beutifuly renderd game and is one of thee best SWG I've ever played. Only a few flaus hinder the game from getting a perfect score, I guess I'm hard to please. If only they would've made the music and explosions and a few other things a little better. But still the game is almost perfect and those small little faults are not enough from keeping peolple from buying this beutiful (and quite bloody) game.
