Star Wars Rogue Squadron is probably the best flying game I have and probably will always be one of the best out there. The one I have is for PC and I have a joystick (Microsoft sidewinder pro), which makes it even better. Rogue Squadron is also compatible with a Force Feedback joystick.
The game is based on the best star fighter squadron in the rebellion and you fly through a variety of missions doing a multitude of objectives such as destroying containers or rescuing people. During the game you get medals (bronze, silver, and gold) according to you score, which is based on accuracy, kills, friendly saves, and so on. When you get all gold bonus levels open up to you and eventually you'll be able to fly the millenium falcon and a Tie Interceptor.
After you finish a level you can play it again in order to get the gold medal if you didn't on your first try. You can still play it again after you get the gold medal if you want to.
The game has excellent graphics although the pilot in the cockpit is like a piece of cardboard. You have many different weapons such as the basic laser cannon, concussion missile, proton torpedoes, bombs, etc… Each weapon can be upgraded by going through the levels and finding floating boxes. Most ships have a special function also like the X-wing closing it's wings so it goes a bit faster, or the V-wing has rocket boosters which give it an extraordinary amount of speed for a few seconds.
There are also different views when playing such as looking through the cockpit or behind the ship. The thing with the view behind the ship though is that when speeding up extremely fast the view gets left behind and the ship seems about a mile away on the screen.
There is a download at lucasarts.com that lets you fly the naboo star fighter in the movie Star Wars Episode 1. So if you're looking for a great game that lets you play forever and challenges your computer flying skills then buy this game on PC or Nintendo 64.
