I bought the game of life because I was bored and it was cheap, and it was only 10 dollars for the game. I went and pop it into my computer. Like most computerized bored games simpler to life it removes the need to keep track of game pieces, paper money, and the time it takes to set up. Unfortunately Life still has a few problems with it, mainly the fact that the spinner isnt real, and you get a feeling that the game has been predetermined from the very get go. Especially since Life is a fairly linear game that gives us a few choices has far has moving around the board goes.
Graphics.
Since this game was never meant to be the cutting of state of the arts graphics even when it was made in 1998 so the graphics wont wow you. The board comes has ok looking with a lot of little things like beaches, trees, and stuff around it to help symbolize where your at. There is a bit of CGI used in the game has well for cut scenes some of the spaces have, these are done ok but there a bit fuzzy. The characters themselves have big heads and chins the sizes that would make Jay Leno jealous.
Sound.
The sound track is ok has far has music but nothing spectacular. The music matches what decade your in from 1950 to 2000. When your college in the 50s a 50 type music will be playing, while traveling in 2000 at the end of the board will give you more of a 2000 sound track. I should also warn you that there is annoying announcer that announces the number you spun, what you landed on, and the amount earn/taken away.
The rules of life.
Basically you play a character in the car and you start off right after high school. Your goal is to get to retirement and beat your opponent in terms of wealth that you have. Youll get a job and a pay check to help you, but each space in the board has a special effect that can help give you wealth or take it away.
The game of life starts you off by choosing either college or starting a career. If you choose college youll start off a couple of bucks in the hole and youll have to take a detour around college spaces. But youll get to choose from 3 jobs and not just one, and 3 salaries that youll get to choose so in the long run its usually better to go through college. These job searches are done through a slot machine that gives you jobs, and then a cash register which a random button displays your salary.
A new rule in the PC game is that some spaces have markers that match careers. In other words if someone is playing has a travel agent and someone lands on a space with a travel agent sign they pay the travel agent the money. The police officer also a special ability to collect money when people land on a 10.
Another thing that was annoyingly added to the pc game are little jokes that appear when you land on a space, you land on visit in laws youll get a cartoon with two police offers saying they dont call him in-laws for nothing. There are a few that are worth a mild jokers but most of them are groaners and eye ball rollers.
Two modes classic and enhance.
The difference between the two are simple. In classic you play through the game and land on spaces that give you life tiles that can be cashed in at the end of the game. Also pay days just give you a lame joke and your pay check. When you finish the game in classic you get to choose between millionaire estates and country side acres. Millionaire estates gives you more money from the life tiles but opponents can steal them from you in till the end of the game, countryside acres your life tiles are safe and taken out of the game.
The enhanced game takes away the life tiles and instead youll play a game of memory with different rules each time, but if you win you get money. Pay days now let you choose a player who will give the amount of your paycheck. If you retire first youll spin the spinner and collect or loose money based on the spin, country side acres has less to win if you roll a 10, but there is only a loose money penalty if you roll a one. Millionaire estates over half the spins with loose you money but you can really collect if your lucky.
Final recommendation.
The game of life wont thrill you like the original board game even if you have human players. Mainly because the game is far to linear to make it feel like your playing a game and more like your just watching a computerized spinner spinning. The enhanced mode gives a little bit more flavor with the match memory game, but it still doesnt over come that. If you love the game of life or are looking for a cheap game you might want to check into it, but otherwise your better off spending the money on the real board game.
