Michael Chrichton's at it again! Only he's advanced his book writings to his own computer game. Chrichton has just finished his game, and it seems to be like a real winner. The box, if you look at it, looks awesome. What would be funner than going back in time to Medieval France? Fighting knights, galloping on horses, rowing through underground rivers, sneaking through castles... too bad that's all there is in this game.
Let's start with the graphics. The graphics are pretty average. The only smart thing about them is that they are new. The graphics provide the exact rich (and researched by Chrichton) detail of Medieval France, back then. The sound is pretty normal. Nothing just outstanding, no real great music, the voices are acted pretty well... kind of. With the scenery, the bad thing about all of is, there ain't much to do in it!
If you've read the book (I won't get into that, except that it's a good book) you'd know the plot. When researching Medieval France, one of your co-workers gets transported back in time to Medieval France. You have to rescue him. So you can begin the single player option to go rescue the lost person (don't remember his name). So you then begin in 1st person view to go into a time machine (very cool) and go back in time. The only way to get back is by using a Quantum Simulation Chip to summon the time portal. So you get into France, way back then. It starts out kind of fun, but if you read the book, the events are going way too fast. The game lacks extra added fun. Good games have many small missions in each level (such as getting information, meeting someone, etc.) but this game doesn't have that. You do something and that level is over with. This game goes by way too fast and is way too easy. You could easily beat it in a day. Another thing that some people may find frustrating is that you can't kill, anyone not even the bad guy. This game is targeted for kids and families, not the average PC gamer.
Along with the singleplayer missions come a more educational thing where you tour the Medieval French town, La Roque, with Michael Chrichton explaining the history of that time period. More for educational purposes.
Overall... don't waste your money. Not that fun. Too easy. Too short.
