thewickedone's Full Review: Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption for Windows, Ma...
I had really waited and longed for this game to get to the shelves of the computer stores here. And when it got here, I bought the game without playing a demo before. I was not unhappy with the game, but I definitly think it could have been better developed.
Graphics: Absolutely fantastic graphics. Great scenaric overlooks, impressivly designed lairs and havens, and a really grand creation of cities. You really feel that you are in the middle of the game, taking part of every inch in the world. The graphics are just a bit edgy, but that is easily overlooked.
Sound: Could have been better. Simple battle shouts, but a great dialogue (when you manage to hack your way through the dungeon for two hours and then talk for a few minutes). The voices of the characters are good, but lip syncing isn't that great, and the dialogues should have been longer.
Music: Absolutely great. The music is combined with great landscapes and enviroments, and it really creates a feeling of depth in the game. Definitly a bonus.
Plot: Okay, the plot story is great, but the way to solve it... yuck. Running through four levels in a dungeon fighting your way through to get to a dialogue or a "boss" combat for a few minutes, then rushing off to fight on. Also, the gameplay is locked on the main plot, so there are no smaller sub-quests to take part of, which makes the game a bit boring after a while. The fighting makes the game a real pain in the behind after a few hours (the battles are not easy) and the lack of quality rpg doesn't make it better. Truly, they could have added more rpg elements.
Multiplay: Actually, here is the chance to take back the rpg elements which were left out. The storyteller mode allows you to create great plots and marvellous rpg (if you can find the right type of storyteller, that is). One drawback is the large amount of cheating that is allowed through the storyteller mode. A bit more like Diablo 2's multiplayer servers would have been an improvement. Multiplay is fun if you can find the type of game you like, but I reccomend getting the MOD's available for the game. They add a lot of good elements.
Overall, this game is a good game which could have been better. I do reccomend it, but not to those whom are after hours of entertaining rpg... for those I reccomend Fallout 2, or Arcanum.
