dannyac's Full Review: Vampire: The Masquerade Redemption for Windows, Ma...
Lately, this game has been getting mixed reviews. The trend seems to be either you love it or you hate it. I for one, love it.
The story line is intriguing, and you crave to find out what is going to happen next. Each cutscene is filled with drama, and keeps you glued to the screen in suspense.
The premise is this: You, Christof, are a Christian, fighting in a battle against vikings. You are injured protecting your liege from a creature of the night, and are held behind in the small town of Prague to be nursed back to health in the monastery. While there, you fall in love with the beautiful Anezka, a young nun in the monastery.
You hear that the silver mine is infested with demons. You trek in and -- well, you'll have to find out for yourself.
The genius of this game doesn't come without its cons, however. Beneath the surface lies several, well, bugs that may hinder your enjoyment of this game.
One commonly-mentioned annoyance is the pathfinding AI. It's clumsy at best and often your coterie members will get stuck behind walls or in tight passages. While the latest patch (1.1 at this writing) has made it a bit more bearable, the bugs are still there and still noticeable.
The game interface is complex, and while this can turn out to be a good thing later on in the game, the learning curve is somewhat steep and can be frustrating when trying to get into the plot of the game.
Another popular rant is about the SAVE system, though this, thankfully, has been fixed in the 1.1 patch, allowing you to save at any point. This is extremely helpful at later points in the game when you need to save after tense points.
Still, the pros outweigh the cons in all ways that I can see. While I haven't thoroughly explored it, the multiplayer system looks great. It is hosted over either an IPX network or WON as "Chronicles", where the "storyteller" (that is, the controller of the plot) designs a game or quest for the other players.
I highly recommend this to any RPG lover or a player of the paper and pen game!
