Forget about the other versions of Fifa and get ready to see the most realistic soccer game ever. This is probably the message that all game reviewers say when they talk about his game.
What do I say?
Well, indeed it’s a great game with a lot of new stuff.
First of all, and probably the most important improvement is the ability to control the direction and the strength of the pass. Remember the other versions where the computer was trying to guess to which player you want to pass? This was like an assistant for beginners but I bet it was a disadvantage for pros that that wanted to make some serious combination. Let’s take this problem that I encountered playing Fifa 2001 : I had the ball and I wanted to pass to another player, so I pressed the pass button. Guess what, an opponent was near the other player and intercepted my pass. Now wouldn’t be nice to be able to pass everywhere on the field NEAR my player not To him so he can make a run and get the ball. And that’s exactly what you can do with Fifa 2002. You pass not to your player but near him where the other can’t reach the ball. This is a great advantage. When you attack you send the ball in front of your player behind the last line of defense and from there it’s just a piece of cake to score.
Actually to send a good pass you have to aim in front of your player, behind the defense
And now some of you will say:” I just can’t send the ball where I want. I end up sending it outside the field or to the wrong player”. It is true that in the beginning you’ll find this “ freedom” quite annoying. The key to this problem is to know how your players are on the field. In the Team Management menu use a scheme that fits you and remember how the players are arranged. Then when you are playing you’ll know where to send the ball. Also even if you send it in a wrong place the nearest player will do the his best to reach it. Just keep practicing. Soon you’ll enjoy. And after that you’ll start using the 1-2 combination. When you pass the ball you can still control the same player, even if it doesn’t have the ball, and you move him where you want and he will receive the ball back! Can you imagine how confusing can this be for the defense?
Another improvement is that he ball is no longer going “through” the players. Even if it hits a leg the direction will change. This is very useful when trying to block passes or shots. Sometimes you can use a player as a second goalkeeper.
I’ll give another plus to this game because it has a better AI. The opponents aren’t so easy to defeat like in other versions of this game. Even if you play Juventus vs. Liechtenstein you’ll still find quite hard to get through defense. This way the game is more challenging. But once you get through enjoy the victory moments as a shoot from 10 meters is 99% goal. (Just don’t hold too much the shoot button). Also the players are smarter. They just don’t wait for the ball but they run to it. It seem that most of the bugs related to Ai were fixed and the players act more natural
They have also added some new animations and movements. They have introduced some Matrix scenes (slow motion movement): after you score and the player starts running and jumping and all the other stuff , the time stops and the camera rotates around him giving you a nice feeling. After all, when you score the golden goal in the Champions League final you deserve something special than the old animations.
