asamanh's Full Review: Fast Food Tycoon 2 for Windows
Although I have not played Fast Food Tycoon 1 , I think Fast Food Tycoon 2 could use a lot of work. The game is very repetitive and it is hard to make a good amount of money. One minute when you look at your expenses it says your making 10,000 bucks a year, the next your losing 10,000 bucks a year, so I just put the settings on as much money I can get and that amount will never run out.
Background
You’re the new CEO of a Pizza Restaurant Chain. You are given a certain amount of money (depending on the settings) and a place in a city (depending on the settings also). The fact that you are a Pizza Chain owner was a little of a surprise because when I looked at the cover of the box it said Fast Food Tycoon not Pizza Tycoon. I was expecting to own my own Burger King. That was a let down. Your point is to make as much money as you can while getting the people to boycott your competitors. Let the Game Begin!
Game Play
The game is pretty simple. The idea of the game is too make money while beating out your competitors. You can set how much competition you want by choosing how many different companies there are. You can start in a number of different cities ranging from Madrid, Spain to New York, New York. The only difference I can find the cities is the language they speak. New York is no bigger than any of the other cities and it doesn’t have separate parts like the Bronx. That what a let down.
As you make more money (or just start off with a lot) you can upgrade your headquarters, warehouses, or restaurants. If you upgrade your restaurants or warehouses it will only make them bigger and have a larger capacity. When you upgrade your headquarters you gain more abilities such as hiring someone to blow up a competitors restaurant (who’s ever heard of that) or just hiring a guard to prevent that from happening at your restaurant.
You also have to hire staff (or have a manager do it for you). You can hire four types of people. A manager, a waiter/waitress, a delivery boy, or a cook. Once you hire a manager you can put on a command so he will deal with the staff and their hours for you. Oh, I didn’t mention you need to set their hours? Well you do. You are in control on setting the word schedule. This can be hard because the hours are in military time and it gets confusing.
The play of the game is ok but it gets boring quickly and is very repetitive. Other than the above items the game has nothing to offer. You might say those thing up top seem like a lot but they really aren’t and altogether they take about five minutes to complete. I think the makers of this game had the word fast in their head a little to much (ironically because this game is Fast Food Tycoon). I think a new company could take this game to the next level.
Graphics
The graphics in this game are very cartoon-like. The characters look like people you would find in a Batman video game. The cities were very pixlie and they just looked like a board game with monopoly houses on them. In addition to that the view of the cities was horrible. It has a top view as if you were looking out of an airplane. This view gets very annoying. When you are looking at words and numbers in the game the look like box letters because the pixels are so big. This game is in 2 dimensional views and that was a let down.
Sound
The sound in this game was like the sound in the earlier 90’s games. Depending on what type of character you click on they all say the same thing. If the person is a student they’ll say, “Good Day to you, mate.” This can be annoying and it is also another repetitive part of the game. Other than that game didn’t have any sound except for some classic music in the background. If you don’t like classic music than put it on mute but if not it doesn’t really matter, does it?
Overall
Overall I think this game is still in its trial stages. If another company were to come and revise it the game could be fun and very successful but as is now it, well, sucks. I think this game was a big let down. I found it by browsing the aisles at best buy and like most games the cover looked a lot cooler than it really was.
