Ski Resort Tycoon 2: Most addicting "Tycoon" game I have played.
Written: Nov 20 '01
Pros:Excellent graphics, really addicting, first person mode great, great setting.
Cons:Tends to be a bit annoying: breakdowns, stupid employees, tacky music.
The Bottom Line: SRT2 is a great game that has plenty of features to it, it is alot of fun watching your visitors interact, and have a good time. Get this game!
Ski Resort Tycoon 2 (Or SRT2) is one of those games where you play as God and create your very own Ski Resort! "How cool can that be?" you wonder. Well, let's find out!
First of all, let's start out with the graphics. The graphics in SRT2 are excellent for a PC game. When you zoom in to level 2 the people are extremely detailed. All the buildings are full of detail as well. The landscape looks great too! The mountains have plenty of trees (Actually, too many) that look great and the snow looks very nice!
Let's get down to the core of SRT2. SRT2 is full of excellent items, and a huge, and I mean HUGE variety of things to add to your prosperous resort. One of the most important things is the lodging. Lodging is where all your guests come to stay and spend a few nights at your high class resort! The lodges vary in looks- small cabins, medium cabins, deluxe cabins, HOTELS, lodges, even condominiums! Each of them are different. For instance, a small cabin can only fit one person inside, but a deluxe cabin might be able to fit 4 in. The higher class buildings can hold alot more- up to 14 I think. Of course I have only unlocked up to the Multiplex Condominium, none of the hotels that can most likely hold 30 people! Sometimes, when you really make your resort into a five star high class resort, your "resort" will hardly even look like a resort, it will look like a very nice town with ski lifts in it! There is also guest comfort, which has stuff like warming huts and bathrooms. Why is this important? Ok, you are in -5 degree weather and you have just been at the ski slopes for 4 hours, and you are beginning to literally freeze and you need a whol ebunch of warmth but you don't wanna walk all the way to your dang cabin. So, instead you go and blow 20 bucks by goin' into a nice small warming hut complete with fires, jolly people, hot chocolate, and much more! And then, of course, what happens when someone doesn't get themselves "relieved" ? They leave! So, you are better off buying a few bathrooms then letting a few big paying guests leave. Of course, the bathrooms come in all different shapes and sizes. You can buy one of those cheap outhouses, "ever try using one of these in -5 degree weather?" or you can buy some bigger or better restrooms.
Next on the list of items is.....FOOD! Food is one of the big things in SRT2. Sure, you can START out with a cheap Hotdog Stand, but you can upgrade to some pretty high class bistros! Even a Micky D's! You want the best for your customers right? Wanna keep them warm without making them spend 15 bucks on a warming hut? Then buils an Espresso Shop, and give them some extra warmth. We also have services- Ski Patrol, etc. Rentals- Snowboard Rentals, SKi Rentals, Retail, etc. Maintenance- Maintenance Shack, Maintenance Garage, etc. There is also the most important feature of them all: SKI LIFTS! Don't forget this a game all about skiing, so make some really cool ski runs for your guests. Of course, there are SEVERAL kinds of ski lifts- ropetows, for the cheap bunny slopes, T-Bars, a bit higher, chair lifts, much better, Quad speeds, wow, Gondolas......WOW! Each lift has its pros and cons, but what do I know, all I have is a yellow double chairlift!
There's a whole bunch more stuff in the items section, don't be fooled if my review sounded like there was nothing in it!
The replay value in the game is very good. If you have a fast computer, you will definitely LOVE this game for a very long time to date. But, if you have a slow computer, like me, you might get bored of it after a few weeks or so. It takes awhile to get bored of a game where you get to watch people use stuff you create, and modify it as much as you want, but.......there is more to life than just this game itself....like The Sims, Sim City, etc. If you want simulator games that keep you occupied for a very long time, look for Maxis games and Tycoon games. This is the first simulator game I have ever reviewed, and I will probably be reviewing more, though, so keep checking back!
The sound in the game is....ok. There are only like 2 songs in the game and they can get SO ANNOYING !!!
So, the songs aren't too good, but the sound FX is pretty good. You hear people shreddin' on the slopes, walkin' around, eatin' food, havin' a good time, and all that kinda stuff. The game might not be merry when it comes to music, but it is merry when it comes to sound FX.
Overall, SRT2 is the best Tycoon game I have ever played. This game is really worth your money! Heck, for 20 bucks, it's a steal! Before they go out of stock for Christmas, get out there and buy a copy of SRT2!
