groverchick's Full Review: Buzz Lightyear of Star Command for PlayStation 1
I recently bought this game for my 6 year old cousin who is completely obsessed with Buzz at Circuit City for around $40 dollars (you can get this game at Amazon.com for around $20). He was quite entertained with the game and he's gotten hours of fun out of it already.
The game is composed of 15 levels (5 zones and 3 levels in each zone) and in each level Buzz must has a variety of tasks that he must complete to collect pizza planet tokens such as (a few examples):
1. Helping Mr. Potato Head find his various body parts.
2. Helping Little Bo Beep find her five missing sheep.
3. Racing the RC car around and winning.
4. Collecting a certain number of tokens to give to Hamm the piggy bank.
5. Helping GI find all his soldiers.
The game is quite challenging and getting pizza planet tokens aren't a piece of cake. I got frustrated more than a few times trying to get them! Once you get one pizza planet token though, you can advance to the next level. Each level is filled with new things to do and tasks to complete. Level 2 - Andy's Backyard was fun because you get to take a little dip in the pool and climb a tree.
Rex is on each level to help you out a little, so if you ever get lost...find Rex. He will offer you little hints and tips.
Buzz attacks with his laser arm and the game makes it easier by allowing you to use your target vision shield by pressing R1 and L1. This makes it 100% easier to attack your opponents. You can also attack with a super spin attack. I thought this was really neat.
There is a mini boss in each level that you must attack to get a token. It took me awhile to figure out how to defeat these guys. Once again...this game is challenging!
The one thing I found disappointing about this game was that if you die, you can't continue where you left off, it starts you all over again at stage 1, so just remember....SAVE YOUR GAME!
If you are worried about violence. This game does have animated violence, but it's really not that bad. I personally think this game promotes less violence than many of those fighting games out there such as Street Fighter and etc. Rest assured there is no blood and guts in this game!
If you are thinking about purchasing this game for a child under 7, they might get a little frustrated playing since some of the tasks are quite hard to complete so you might have to help them out a little. I had to help my cousin out quite a few times.
Overall, the game is fun. If you are a Toy Story lover this game is a must have. Great 3-D graphics, cute sounds, great moves, and it keeps you entertained since you have so many tasks to complete and enemies to fight. If you are looking for a challenge this game could be for you.
