Shaunpm60's Full Review: Caesar's Palace 2000 for PlayStation 1
The one thing that attracted me to this game was its $14.99 price tag. The other motivating point of purchase was that I really liked the Super NES classic, Vegas Stakes. Well, in a way, it is and isn't Vegas Stakes. There is a large variety of casino games to play, but you're stuck in one casino with no real interaction with people.
CP 2000 starts you out with $2000, to which you can blow on any one of over 15 casino games. The real problem is making money when you start, since you can only bet so little. Also, you have to play the games so many times in order to place higher bets.
The graphics are pretty good, although it could have been rendered better, or at least been presented in high-resolution. There's not much sound, other than ambient sound effects, and music in the menus. The control is easy, yet some of the functions are rather confusing in ways of placing bets. It's easier to play in an actual casino that play this game.
The one thing that hurts this game, is that it's pale in comparison to Nintendo's Vegas Stakes released seven years ago. Vegas Stakes had fewer games, but you can switch casinos, and there was a sort-of RPG element, such as people coming up to you asking for money, a trip to the hospital, selling jewlery or lottery tickets. CP 2000 feels like you're all alone. There's no computer opponents at the card tables like Stakes had.
The game does provide a quick fix if you want to play a casino game, but it's too tedious, and it's nowhere near as fun as Vegas Stakes.
