Pros: Fun city havoc driving with good controls.
Cons: Tedious "driving test" before you can get into the game's story.

Driver, the 70s style driving game, is really two separate games. The product is promoted as an undercover cop adventure, where you drive through illicit missions in large American cities in your large American automobiles. In fact, getting into that story is beyond casual players but the side games in Driver are fun enough.
The "driving test" administered at the beginning of the game, to enter the adventure mode, is a seriously hard barrier to entry. Friends said it took over an hour or two of practice to get through this two minute driving test - why should I have to wait that long to play?
So instead I played through the side games in Driver - different little games with big cars in big cities. My favourite of all is to turn on invulnerability and wreak havoc in the cities - 14 cops on my trail, careening around Miami in a boat of a Buick, aiming for pedestrians. It's fun and giddy, and it's great with groups of friends. The controls and the camera angles are great - you feel like you're steering a car in some 70s movie chase scene.
Someday maybe I'll try to crack into the adventure, but by then there'll be something better out.
