skippycowboy's Full Review: Madden NFL 2002 for Windows
Ahhh remember the days when you'd be sitting on the couch watching your dad playing Madden Football 92' stomping the oilers say with the cowboys and how the graphics were so choppy that if a player was hurt the ambulance on the field would just glide over anyone?Didn't you love that? If you loved the classic Madden, then 2002 is for you chief'. So if choppy graphics pathedic voice overs and excessive taunting and replays after every play is what you are looking for then check this game out.
Though 2002 brings back some old stuff, some new features are in store for the new season. One of these features is a mulligan, which allows you to re-do the last play that you might of unplugged the controller on or accidentally picked a qb sneak on forth and long without noticing it. The mulligan is a nice little feature to have around like I said o do re-do the last play over again and it only costs one time out.However you only have 3 timeouts so watch the use of the mulligan.
The second new feature this year is Classic Mode which aloows you to play the old 16-bit games for the Genesis on your PSX.Though Classic Mode totally sucks , it's birngs down old memory lane for one last time.
Oh and of course I forgot the newest feature to the game , the Houston Texans. Plus all your favorite Madden modes are back for 2002 including some new Madden Cards.
The gameplay hasn't changed since last year if anything they've gotten worse.The defenders can come out of nowhere and smash your guy due to some lag spots in the game.Or maybe in some spots how the defenders run twice as fast as you .
1.Mulligans - using this feature could win the season or destroy your perfect record.This feature sucks when you have 30 seconds left and 60 yards to go but HEY you used all of your timeouts on mulligan's.
2.It's Madden- Yes the game lacks many pros you've always ,loved this game, it's always been a classic and heaving the ball at the last second or breaking away from tackle stiff arming and running it all the way gives you that joy for the rest of the day.
3.Passing- The passing game in this game is at first hard but then once you know what you're looking for you can heave the ball as far as you want and count on your main man to catch it.
4.Madden Cards- Little cards you can buiy for 100 tokens pack. You gain tokens by completing a challenge.Challenges might be run over 200 yards in a game or make a 75 yard pass. The cards open cheats or hidden things.
1.Mulligan's- It's fourth and 12 you are going against a friend he has the ball , he drops back heaves it INTERCEPTION! But wait your little crybaby friend has just used a mulligan he comes back and wins it all.This feature will make or break you so use it wisely and I suggest turning off mulligans when in Multiplayer.
2.Sound- Im starting to think the sound effects of a guy being tackled we're carried over from Nintendo's Tecmo Superbowl.The sound quality sucks. You hit a guy and it sounds like you just dropped a bowling bowl in his lap."Urgh".The worst thing is that they only have like two sound bytes for hits , high pitched grunt and low pitched grunt.You'd think after all of the advancements in technology they could pay a little more money to have a couple more people record a grunt.
5.Tackles- Your guy gets smashed on his right shoulder and tips right. That's just a little thing that bothered me or when your guy gets hit in the waist he should fold over the defenders back not fall forward.
6.Moves- This game isn't very realistic , I could have my speed of my running back at 0 but thanks to the highsteps in this game the second you see your opponent lunge forward highstep and your home free . High-step get down and spin move , that's the key to winning the season with ease. I would play this game in multiplayer alot more if this feature wasn't available for my cousin to run over my Buc's Defense with hnis over the hil Emmitt Smith (yes Smith is the best but he has lost his touch).

Rent the game many love it many hate but you'll find out wuick it's the same old Madden wrapped in new features.
