SupergoldZero's Full Review: Mega Man 8 for PlayStation 1
Megaman, one of the oldest video game mascots out there. He has been around for more then 10 years and still giving out solid titles such as this game, Megaman 8. Megaman 8 was a benchmark in the megaman series because was the first megaman game on a 32-bit system and boy did it work out for the better.
The way this game is played- Well I think most video gamers out there know the basic gameplay of megaman but I will explain it anyway. In nearly ever Megaman game you start out with 8 bosses [actually in MM8 you start out with 4 then you have to fight an other 4]. Each Boss represents some sort of power [Fire, Ice, Water, and many many more] . Once you beat the boss’s stage and the boss itself, you will gain that power. Now you must use that power against an other boss, hoping that the next boss you fight is weak against that power. I always loved this engine and it is a lot of fun. In MM8 the whole game pattern is like this. First you have the intro stage, then you have to fight 4 bosses, then you fight a mid-boss, then you go on to an other 4 bosses then you go on to the last stages. The last stages in MM8 have you ending up using as lot of your powers to help you past it. Also there is something new in MM8 that appeared in MM7. Now in ever stage you can find bolts and once you get enough bolts you can make cool parts for MM. You have to use certain powers to find all of these bolts and the bolts are important for beating this game.
Graphics- Very well made graphics, very colorful and really helps make MM stand out on the playstation [2-D still lives]. Each stage you go through has it’s own unique feel and look and that’s what always made MM an excellent seires.
Sound and Music- Music was always good in every Megaman game and in this one it’s no different. The sound effects are basic but good nonetheless. But the voice acting in the Anime Cinemas [other MM first] is really crummy. MM sounds too much like his own sister Roll, or in other words Megaman sounds like a Mega Girl and even the other characters does’nt have that good of voice acting. But I liked Dr.Wily’s voice, since he so evil his sisinster voice does go with him.
Control- This is fairly simple since Megaman is a 2-D game after all. D-pad to move, X to jump, Square to shoot, Triggers to switch powers. Nothing worong here.
Overall- Very Good game, though it is not best of the seires, it is still good. I highly suggest Megaman X4 since it did a better job then MM8. Also there is this cool 2-D game made by Namco called Klonoa which is pretty good [pnce I find this game I will review it as well].
