Pros: The same old Mega Man we've all come to know and love. Cool anime scenes.
Cons: Why does Mega Man sound like a girl?
The Bottom Line: I think that Mega Man's time is just about up on consoles. It's about time for an entirely new Mega Man to pop up for the next generation.
michael45's Full Review: Mega Man 8 for PlayStation 1
I love Mega Man, I played as many of them as I could on the original NES, and Mega Man X was the primary reason that I wanted to get a SNES. After going over to the PS, I thought that I had abandoned my Mega Man-playing days forever. Well, I found MM8 for sale at Toys 'R' Us (believe it or not, you can find a lot of games really cheap over there), and decided "what the heck, it's Mega Man. Well, I bought it. And I kind've regret doing it.
It's the same old gameplay, which I didn't really mind, but I found this Mega Man really difficult to play, and at first I thought this was because I had been so used to playing 3D for so long. But eventually I got the hang of it for the most part.
For the most part, Mega Man 8 is a bland game, an average game. The in-game graphics remind me of Mega Man 7 for SNES. Looking for bolts to purchase items was extremely tedious. I eventually lost interest in the game.
The anime sequences throughout the game could've saved this game, and made it a little bit better, but when I heard Mega Man talk, I thought, "When did Mega Man switch genders? This CAN'T be his voice!" But alas, it was. Dr. Light sounded like some kind've old hobo, and less like a scientist. Only Roll sounded almost normal.
This game has all the elements of a Mega Man game, but that's nothing new. I guess it's gotten old for me, but if you must play this game, I suggest renting it rather than buying it.
