Shaunpm60's Full Review: Mega Man 8 for PlayStation 1
Mega Man 8, which is a continuance of the 10 year series from Capcom, makes its way to the Playstation. Basically, the plot is the same as always, Megaman has to defeat Dr. Wily and his 8 robots, except now two dueling robots from space has been thrown in. While this doesn't have to do with much of the game, it does play a small role, as Megaman's advasairy, Bass, picks up 4 evil stones from one of the robots.
GRAPHICS: 2-D, but nice. Megaman has been given a make over, which looks a lot better. The colors seem to bright at times. Also, the graphics don't really take advantage of the Playstation. If you look at R-Type Delta, you can tell it's more than 2-D. There are 3-D elements in a 2-D confinement.
SOUND: Why does Megaman sound like he's 10 years old? You'd expect his voice to not sound like a whinny girl. I would have prefered no voices at all, just like the previous 7 games. The music has gone up in quality, but you kind of wonder why some songs are on that stage. Sound effects are good, but not mindblowing.
PLAY CONTROL: The control in this game is a lot stiffer than the Nintendo versions, due to the Playstations control pad. Also, the control for firing a secondary weapon was not neccesarry, and made the game a little to easy.
CHALLENGE: It's a little difficult at first, but you get used to it. The hardest part of the game is the rocket sled stages. The screen moves so fast, you barely have time to think. Bosses are a bit too easy, but some come out to be difficult. Wily at the end was too easy to beat.
OVERALL: This game is for fans of the original game series, but could be in for some dissapointment. The game could also be suitable for a younger auidence. The animated sequences are dubbed horribly, but are kind of fun to watch. It almost resembles Pokemon, but better.
