Pros: You can DEFINITELY win
Cons: Becomes a little monotonous
Monopoly has got to be one of the most known and loved family games of the decade. Who can?t remember playing with friends or siblings? It was almost inevitable that Playstation would develop a version for their platform. I can honestly say I do play this game once or twice a week. Does that mean I think it is the best game ever? Well, only if you need an ego boost when you beat the computer with about $5000 in the bank.
Setting up the game:
There are several choices you can make to alter the play of the game. You have the option of turning on or off music and movies. Personally, I turn the movies off to save time, but they are cute. Also, you have the option of customizing your game rules. This gives you a little variety and choice. I have found the best way to play the computer is to allow Free Parking to collect all fines, Double amount if you land on Go, and to allow infinite amounts of houses in bank.
You have the choice of either playing against the computer or against people. Being an extremely competitive person, I find it more fun to yell at the computer than friends or family. The game follows the same premise we all knew as children. You go around the board until all the properties are bought, build houses, and turn yourself into a mini version of Donald Trump.
A few hints:
I have found a few good ideas if you want to beat the ever-living mess out of the computer.
1. The computer is pretty stupid. You can buy almost all properties from him for ? the price. Even if he just bought them.
2. When you land on a property that is worth over $100, auction for the property. Again, the computer will let you have it for ? the price.
3. It is not necessary to build tons and tons of houses. Within about 30 minutes, you can own ALL of the properties. Then you just bide your time.
4. Be careful about spending all your money when you have a lot of houses. You will inevitably land on Chance or Community Chess and be given the Make General Repairs card. It is a pain to have to mortgage everything.
This is one game you can count on for at least an hour of entertainment. It only takes a minute to understand a few of the nuances and after that you are home free. I would not say it is the best game of all time, but if you are like me. You will enjoy an afternoon of making yourself feel like a ?Winner.?
