| skater6446's Full Review: Oddworld: Abes Exodus for PlayStation 1 |
Intro:
I was recently introduced to Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus when my brother received a used Playstation with a couple games. Oddworld came with those couple of games, and it turned out to be the overall best RPG game I've ever played.
Storyline:
Very Odd things are happening at SoulStorm Brewery. It seems that the overpowering Glukkons (Bad Guys) are digging up the dead bones of Mudokons, (Good Guys) and using them in there new beverage, SoulStorm Brew. The Evil Glukkons are also need tears in their famous beverage. The Glukkons will go as far as torturing the poor, defenseless Mudokon for one drop of their precious tears.
Once again it's up to Abe (your character) to begin his quest and go through FeeCo Depots, Slig Barracks and Bonewerkz, where he must gain control of the Glukkon leaders in order to open the gates to SoulStorm, only with his loin-cloth, and his superior brain. Not even mentioning his horrible case of gas. Does this sound odd to your little ears, well good, Welcome to the Oddworld!
Gameplay:
The gameplay in Abe's Exoddus is one-of-a-kind in todays vast world of Cheese, Football, and Fooz Ball Players. It's based around the view of the early mario, Side View, but one item that adds to the gameplay is the amazing 3D graphics.
The idea of Abe's Exoddus is mainly based around strategic adventure. Which plainly means you need a strategy, to beat the adventure. You have to venture through the Necrum Mines, to save your friends (Mudokons) from the evil Glukkons. Your even able to order Mudokons around, to make your adventure even more complex, but easier.
1-Player:
When you start off your first game, your helped through the whole 1st tunnel with signs, and flashing tips. There's also a few that don't make sense at all. Well, it's Oddworld, what do you expect.
These signs are probably the most helpful aspect of the game, because the controls are the hardest I've ever had to figure out, in a long time. Don't worry though, the controls will become second nature as fast as you can say, "Ahastapeedapedilong."
2-Player:
Abe's Exoddus's 2 player feature is similar to the main mode, of 1-player, but you switch off controlling Abe when the opposite player dies. All the same controls and levels, with 2-players.
Controls:
It would be very hard for me to list every single command/control, because there's so many. It goes about, teaching you all of them at some point in time.
Sounds
The sounds are very original, and easy to interpret what each sound means. Some give you hints on what you need to do next, and some alert you of an enemy that's close. Overall, you'll enjoy the sounds, and background music... it suits the game well.
Conclusion
Well, that's about it... if it sounds like a great story, and fun game to you, try it out. Even if it doesn't, try it out anyway. I thought it'd be boring, and ull, but it was actually really fun.
Take care...
