Pros:Better Frame Rate than N64 version
Cons:Terrible detail, controls, graphics, etc.
The Bottom Line: For Quake 2, the PC version is where to go... for a console, stick w/ the N64 version!
I got the PC version of Quake 2 in '98. It was and still is one of my favorite first person shooters. Then, in '99, I played the N64 version of Quake 2. For a cartridge, it kicked @$$. It was a pretty solid port, although the animation was skippy. Hell, it was only a 12 MB cart! And yet, the PSX version of this game is on a CD (probably about 220 MB or so, w/ the rest going to FMVs and CD audio), and it doesn't come close to being as good as the N64 or PC versions. I was impressed with the frame rate of this game, but that's about it. The controls are horrendous, the loading times are laughable, and the sounds are way too high pitched, like a little bit of helium was placed into the throats of whoever did the voices and sounds. The space marines in here don't even look anything like the PC version! That's pretty bad! The deathmatching levels are pretty small, and they're really not worth it. I don't understand how this version of Quake 2 is better than the N64 version. At least that version represents the PC version, somewhat! Don't bother with this unless you plan to waste money on something.
