ss3goku's Full Review: Sim Theme Park for PlayStation 1
No matter what type of games you enjoy playing, if it be racing, action, rpg, puzzle, fighting, or first person shooter games, one type of game always seems to capture our attention. Sim games seem to do that to us every time by giving us this mythical belief that in these games, we play as god and every action we do will not only effect that one area, but it effects everything in sight. Which is why Bullfrog have introduced us to a new type of sim game. Sure you created buildings that enabled you to become the mayor of your own town, and yeah you played the "real world" by possessing ppl into having whatever you wanted, whenever. But now we are given the opportunity to play as Walt Disney and create our very own theme park. While this being a great idea, and a great game which got ported over by the more powerful PC, the Sony playstation comes far from giving us gamers something worth wanting for.
Plot:(n/a)
Out the blue, you’re given acres of land to create what your customers will hope to be the world’s greatest theme park. You start with nothing but your dream. Which might take more then once for it to become reality, which is where the practice mode falls in. In this mode you will still have to create a theme park with all the glitter and gold, but you wont have to pay any bills or workers, basically you just enjoy yourself and do anything that is possible within your budget. But if you got your theme park placed on blue prints and are ready to go, then be prepared to play the original mode and play the big cheese as you have others work for you and give what the ppl want. Either way, your supposed to create the park that no other man has ever made, your limited to things, but it is up to you to make the best of em, and the result will either become a sheer thing of beauty, or a twisted disgusting pile of junk.
Graphics:(4/10)
The view given for 99.9% of the time you play this game is of an overhead birds eye-view of the park, from beginning to end, course there are such views as the FPS that you will earn later on, depending on how successful you are. Still this game is very similar to buying a used car. Sure the outside of that new slick ford mustang is sweet, but once you start the ignition, it all falls apart. Cause when your looking down on your creation, it looks pretty descent, considering this is just a PSone your playing on, and you'll actually see your rides go through it's animations, such as race cars going around the track, to the roller coaster soaring down to what seems like a endless sharp turn that will cause your customers to vomit whatever they had last week! BUT!!! When you change to the FPS, be prepared to reach for your own vomit bag as you'll see nothing but jagged pixels that are a sight sore for any gamer to see, only useful thing about this view is having the ability to enter the rides you have created, which you'll only do once or twice, depending on what you create.
Sound:(7/10)
Well the music track earns a big zip, zilch, zero, nothing, nadda, ok ok you get it, still for once, I can tell you that the music track doesn't mean anything for this game. The tutorial guide has such a tone that won’t make you smash your controller in frustration as you yell "SHUT UP!" Still one annoying thing to point out is that it seems he just blurts out random things, take for example how he cept nagging me to rise my ticket prices cause the customers found it as a "steal", the original price for tickets is $60.00, I was at $120.00 and he still insisted that I raise them, no wonder I went bank rupt my first time creating a park. You'll hear chattering going around as your customers wonder your paths to see what rides are hot, and what is not, still what’s better is how you'll hear the go-karts engines roar, or people yelling as they ride your theme park, or how bout people moaning over the poorly produced fast food making it to come much more realistic to your ears.
Control:(5/10)
Being just a point and click, or better yet the push of a button, this turns the game into reaching a neutral score, making it an even five. Only problem you will have is knowing which way to place your attraction so it fits in whatever is around it.
Replay Value:(4/10)
I love sim games, I think they are one of the greatest series ever made. From the SNES to the PC games, each one has been great to play. Still while Sim Theme Park is a great twist to the series, it seems to fall short on the replay value. Sure the first 2 or 3 days you wont be able to put it down, but after that, what else is there to do?!
I was able to create everything possible in the game and I found myself asking for much much more! I suppose the PC games have spoiled me with all the expandable options. So for those who can't get the PC game, then I would recommend this, but if you can, I suggest you go with that.
Bottom Line:(5/10)
Like I said before, it all depends on if you can get the PC version or not. Still for a PSone game, it does deliver the basics, but you'll be asking for more over time.
