alyssa01's Full Review: Sim Theme Park for PlayStation 1
Overview: SIM games have been around a long time, relatively speaking. I remember the very first SIM game that I ever got... SIM Tower. The graphics were shoddy in a time when even the best graphics were nothing special. The interface was poor, even in a time when game users were used to reading "Bad command or filename" every time a key was mistyped.
And yet... and yet...
I played the HECK out of that game. Simplistic? Yes. Very. But in SIMplicity (pun intended!) there can sometimes be found beauty... and once again, the SIM games deliver both. There's no monsters to eat your little parkgoers, and there's no swordfights or epic plots. No magic spells to be junctioned to a junction to a familiar who is junctioned to a character who is junctioned to another character-- you get the idea!
Gameplay Mechanics: The graphics in SIM Theme Park for the Playstation are decent, and the interface has much improved since the original SIM City. There are options upon options to keep you delving into the menus until you truly feel a kinship with your little people (after the hundred or so hours that I put in on it, I was starting to think that I *was* a SIM!). New options open up with nearly every buildable structure. And, even better, you can customize that game to within an inch of its life. It's your world, and they mean it!
True to SIM style, as you build more, you get more options. Larger roller costers and better attractions become available to you as you expand your park. You can, of course, choose your price on rides and food (even bathrooms can be pay-only), but you need to find a happy medium in order to keep the people coming in. If you charge too much, you will not get any park-goers, but if you charge too little you will find yourself broke.
Lastability: Extremely high. The fact that each park will be different keeps me coming back to this one. I confess to enjoying the color-coordination options for the rides as well...
Rating: Overall, an excellent addition to the SIM series.
