Shanny21's Full Review: Sim Theme Park for PlayStation 1
Sim Theme Park, was not what I had really hopped for in this game. While I knew it was going to be more about financial status and how well I ran the park, I was also hoping that it was going to be more fun then it was.
Why I bought the game
First off, I love playing Sim games and the latest one I have been playing was for the PC Roller Coaster Tycoon. When I decided I was going to get a new game I went out to first by Sim People. Then, while passing the Playstation games I saw Sim Theme Park. I wasn't sure as to what to get then, so I compared and prices (generally the same) graphics, plot and detail that was offered by both.
What caught my eye mostly with Sim Theme Park was you could ride the rides, not something you can do in Roller Coaster Tycoon. I thought that was a neat add on and so did my husband so I decided to buy it thinking it was going to be fairly similar to Roller Coaster Tycoon. I know my own stupid mistake.
Playing the practice game
When I got home, the first thing I did was open this game up and pop it in my Playstation. Learning how to play the game in practice mode was much more easier then playing in regular. You are limited to the same amount of cash, but in the practice game you get more then what you would when first starting out in the real game.
You don't have the features to learn how to use researchers, janitors, maintenance and all the important stuff you need in the real game. You basically just get the hang of building a park.
The real part of the game
In the real game you have so much more you have to do. You start off with less things to build, and are limited to how many of each you can place. And when one thing runs out you have to research on more items to build.
Remember your supplies are limited so you want to be careful as to what you put in your game.
Gold Tickets
You need gold tickets to advance to other parks with different themes, rides and settings.
There are many ways to get gold tickets through out the game. Some are hidden and others are just given to you after you have had the park up and running for a certain amount of time and based on how well you do.
Earning four gold tickets lets you buy a camcorder. This feature allows you to see it from the view of your customers, ride the rides and play the games. You can even bet your own money on some of the games and win or loose it depending on how well you do.
While it is interesting to get down on the customers level of view and ride the rides, it is not as fun as it seems to be. The graphics are not that well and when getting on a ride you sometimes have to wait a considerable amount of time before the ride even starts.
Staff
On your first park, you are limited to five of each kind of person you can hire. The people you can hire are entertainers, researchers, security guards, janitors and mechanics.
You have to keep up on them and make sure they are trained correctly and stay happy and energetic. Otherwise you may have a strike on your hands.
Maintaining the park
There are many things you have to do to make your park a great park.
Supply enough great rides, places to eat and drink. Keeping bathrooms near by for customers.
Watch your prices of things too, customers can get unhappy and feel "cheated" out of their money if you give them poor quality food/drinks for a high price.
You want to keep your park exciting enough that they will want to come back and also recommend it to friends but you are also in it to make a profit and you don't want to cheat yourself out of losing money.
Overall
This is a great Sim game and it is not bad to play, but I was hoping it was going to be more fun like Roller Coaster Tycoon was. There is a more financial detail in this game then the other one. But if you are a Sim fan this is a game for you.
