I've played many RPG's in my life, but this one just astounded me! It may not have the best effects or graphics, but the storyline is intriguing and you can change the ending by your actions.
There are two heroes to this game--Rena Langford and Claude Kenni. You can choose to play either one for the entire game. But don't worry, whichever one you choose, the other will join. And like most RPG's, you travel through the game, collecting allies. Some allies you can decide not to take, and others join only if one or the other hero is the main character.
During the search, you encounter enemies, of course. I like this battle system! Instead of having to decide what each member of the party will do during the fight, you can program them beforehand. You can also decide who will be the leader and control them during the game. So, if you're playing as Rena, but want to fight as Claude, you can.
Along the way, you have what are called "private actions." This is what made the game so interesting. It's these actions that can change the endings. With over 87 possible endings, it will take a long time to see them all, even though 4 or 5 are shown at the end. I have played the game three times, and have seen only two endings twice. (You can actually have the two main characters NOT end up together by playing these actions right). I'm still working on that one.
And, if you think the game is easy the first time through, don't erase your memory card! Put the saved game into the other slot, and start the game over (play as the other character). This game has a "voice collector" that records all the voices on the game when it's played. Once a certain percentage of voices are collected, the more difficult levels open.
I haven't done that yet because I accidentally erased one of my games!
So, for a game that you can have different endings, instead of the same ol' same ol', go get Star Ocean
