jericho_i's Full Review: Star Ocean for PlayStation 1
Star Ocean: the Second Story? It's my favorite game! I play long hours at this game, and it surely gets a long way to go (literally). In my opinion, this is the only game that can go neck-to-neck with (my other favorite), Final Fantasy 8!
The story begins in 2 ways: in Claude's part of the story, he met a freak accident back at one planet he and his father, Commodore Kenni, were exploring and was blown to Expel. In Rena's side, she went to Shingo Forest only to place herself in danger. The real story unfolds when Claude saves Rena from danger, it is some sort of boy-meets-girl situation (more details withheld).
In this game, you will meet 10 other characters, whom some you will find them and some will join in the way. Like most RPG's you will be determined to become stronger, learn new spells and ultimately, win the game. But what makes it different is the addition of skill points and skills, which will be helpful throughout the game. Private actions add up the mood and setting that will modify the course of the game. The only turnoffs are repetitiveness: the enemies - some even lacks originality.
