| wendy3rd's Full Review: The Game of Life for PlayStation 1 |
Our kids wanted a Playstation very much. We already have other video game systems, but as always there is something 'new and better' out there so the kids all decided to pool their resources and buy a Playstation. As parents we were happy to see them working together; but now to buy games for it.
My husband went along with the kids to make this purchase. He found The Game of Life and at first the kids were hesitant. They thought it would not be any fun. Boy were they wrong!
This was a game we easily agreed on; no bad morals or stupid messages that make the kids want to buy trading cards or tee shirts with pictures on them for $30. We wanted to try and stay away from the shoot-em-up games that seem to plaster the store everywhere you look. This is just the board game that I really liked as a kid brought to life. The characters in this are funny. They make silly noises that make you laugh while you are enjoying a game with your kids.
My kids have also learned the value of things like auto and home insurances in a very simple way. They found out kids AREN'T cheap; especially when they have a set or two of twins of their own. (on the game only *whew*)
The creators of this game did a great job incorporating family fun and video games together. There are not a lot of games out there where you can play so many players! You still get to choose your car color, you can pick your name, career or college like in the board game. It is a very user-friendly kind of game; it didn't take my 11 year old long to teach me how to use the buttons to play it (grin). There is different music that changes as the decades roll by, too. The kids also pointed out to me that the car styles change. I just get into the music. (I am such an observant listener!)
I have not looked for too many other games; the kids have bought some racing ones since, and they also seem to enjoy those. But I will stick with Life; it is a lot of fun....until the kids show another one to us that looks promising. We play on the Advanced version. That has a lot of animation and you can play 'life's little games'. If you don't know what that is then you haven't played The Game of Life.....Playstation version, that is.
