rodcy's Full Review: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for PlayStation 1
I feel like such a punker, when I play this game!
My boyfriend borrowed it from a friend and kept playing it one weekend, I would walk by or look over and thought from the looks of it, that it wouldn't be my cup of tea. I enjoy playing video games (more than I'd like to admit) but not as much as he does. Well, I grabbed the control from him and gave it a whirl.
At first I got very frustrated because I wasn't doing the tricks that he was, so I thought maybe this is a "dude" game that a "chick" won't really get into. I was wrong. I slowly got hooked. I can't believe the time that I have spent trying to master this game.
The general idea of the game is to skate in different skate parks. In order to gain entrance into most of the parks you have to acquire tapes. Each park has the opportunity to earn some tapes through different tasks. My favorite is trying to get the "high score" tape, where you earn points by performing complex tricks. You get easily addicted trying to outdo your last trick to get a higher point score.
Having never skateboarded in my life, I didn't think I would find this game interesting or easy. But I am now a huge fan and it is becoming easier, but you can still challenge yourself each time you play, trying to get higher point scores or the "gold" medal in skateoffs.
I like the music that accompanies this game. It is also very addictive. Although, as the hours sometimes pass you are continually hearing the same songs over and over. Sometimes I opt to put on my own music and turn the volume down on the game.
Also fun is to play with another player. When two people are playing you are in the same skatepark and basically trying to outdo each others tricks. With each trick you complete you turn the parts of the skatepark your skaters color. Your opponent trys to outdo your trick and turn that portion of the ramp to his/her color. It is timed so you are skating as fast as you can to try to turn the park your color. Great fun for me and my boyfriend to play.
I would highly recommend this game! I can't wait to try Tony Hawk 2. I think is just came out.
