Pampushky's Full Review: Um Jammer Lammy for PlayStation 1
We bought this game at a clearance bin at the rental store, thinking we had found a cheap Playstation game for my teenage step-daughter. Well, I guess we did...it was cheap, but with the heavy pseudo-Japanese accents and blaring music, the only level we can actually enjoy is the easy level which requires only some finger dexterity.
The first character that greats you is some strange, and I mean STRANGE, onion-headed rapper, singing with a heavy accent and apparently telling you to play some cool guitar riffs. I play guitar, and this game is just too hard. The point of this game is to follow along and play back the music to the lyrics the other characters are singing. Sort of musical improvising. It's not a game for small kids, or even parents like me, unless you simply have a lot of talent at following games simply by touch. It could have been made into a fun game, but they made the gameplay way too hard for the average person. Unfortunately the strange lyrics stick in your head for days, even though I try so hard to get that crazy music out of my mind...which wouldn't be bad if the English made any sense!
I had no idea what we were getting into when we bought this, and I still don't. I guess it is a fun game in a kind of karaoke kind of way, but the best thing the designers could have done is slow the music down.
