napheadpsx's Full Review: Um Jammer Lammy for PlayStation 1
What the heck?! a guitar playing lamb? Oh yeah, it's just Um Jammer Lammy! Prepare to get jiggy with lots of really strange songs and lyrics that are from Tom Green himself. (not really, but you never know!) If you're into playing those button pressing music games, this is one of the best. I'll break it down to give you a better idea on what this game is like.
Gameplay: Well, this is kind of a mixed bag but scoring can really mess you up here. Sometimes it does seem like you play it perfect but you don't get any points, and other times you can try to mess up on purpose and score some major points. If you try to enjoy the game you probably will. When I first purchased the game for $40 (now I can get it dirt-cheap at $5...boy was I mad when I saw that price tag!) I took it home to give it a test run. Keep in mind that I was just a 12-year old kid so I had fun even when I couldn't make it through a level. This may be different for our older audience. If I was 30 or so I would find the music annoying and not want to play anymore. This is kind of a "selected audience" game in my opinion so some people may like it and others won't.
Graphics: Here's a style you don't see too often...Paper cut-outs gettin' groovy in a 3-D world. Alright I'm not gonna lie but there isn't much eye-candy in this game, not even in the movies. This game was made for you to have fun, and everything in this game is whacked-up. A pregnant caterpillar, multi-personality airplane driver, and dancing bears are the types of things you'll be seeing in this game.
Sound: Well, this is basically what the game revolves around, so you would think to be expecting something really great. The soundtrack definitely not awe-inspiring and not gonna be played on the radio but you're gonna be jammin' to it so get used to it. In the game you do pick up extra effects for your guitar so you can make it sound the way you want it to. I thought that was pretty cool and it does make for some variety.
Replay Value: Hmm....how long will this game keep someone busy? Here's the answer - You'll either put it in your dusty closet after an hour or you'll fall in love. This is a game where you either love it or hate it. I loved it just because I'm one of those people so I tried everything I could until I had a Cool rating on every single level. It did take a long time and lots of practice but I had fun. If you have a friend with you the multi-player mode is really cool. You have the chance to play on the same team or have an all-out duel. This makes a nice change from the computer players who just don't seem to mess up any. Another cool thing is that you can unlock the old PaRappa the Rapper to sing with the songs already in the game. Think how cool it'd be to have Lammy and PaRappa gettin' their freak on-stage together!
To Sum It All Up: This is a very, very, VERY strange game, but it can be a lot of fun if you try it out. If you get a chance to play this game, give it a shot.
