Pros: Plenty of gameplay options, great fun, and easy to pick up
Cons: A beginner can thrash you, a few characters missing needs more music
The Bottom Line: WWF Smackdown simply rules, the pros easily outweigh the cons. Single player mode is a bit dull. The sequel is better!

| californified's Full Review: WWF Smackdown for PlayStation 1 |
I found this WWF game noticeably different from what I'd played before (Warzone and Attitude); moves like hurricanas that in the past required loads of button combinatioins can now be done by just one button. Its not nearly as difficult to master as earlier wrestling games and strikes the balance between the qualities of games such as Tekken 3 and WWF Attitude. This game is bettered by its sequel Smackdown 2 but , with a gruop of friends in four player modes, this game rocks!
The flaws are in the absence of no commentary by JR, dull repetitive music in the background, and many favouite characters missing. In its favour, there are loads of game options, a few secret characters, and good fast gameplay. It might not be as classy as a Forrest Law combo from Tekken 3 buyt smashing your opponent around the head with a kendo stick is just as much fun.
My favourite gamin option was Royal rumble but I felt that some things from the show had been cut unnecessarily (eg the talking is all done with lame little subtitles rather than voices or JR's commentary). The create a wrestler feature though is very cool. There is a bit of a shortage of moves though.
