I was about to pick up this game for some $40 (thinking it was a must-get), but I'll take your warning and check out the rental. Devil May Cry near lasted me a weekend and while it rocked during the duration of the game, I never picked it up again afterward. This sounds like one of those good platformers that die hard.
Nice, fast review. Easy to breeze through, and you saved me some cash.

It's not bad. But I don't see anyone playing this for more than 3 days. It'll be fun for that time, but it's not really one of those games I see people picking up after they've beaten it.
