The Bottom Line: I recommend this game to anyone and everyone regardless if you are familiar with the racing world. I'm not, and I had a ball playing this game while it lasted.
CyDuke's Full Review: NASCAR 2001 for PlayStation 2
For someone, who has never watched a single NASCAR race, this game was easy to learn. With all the thrills, spills, and disappointments of a real Winston Cup season, this game really packs in what people need to know, and throw out what they don't. When I first got my PS2, I was skeptical about buying NASCAR, but I rented one weekend to try it out, and I was blown out of my chair. I then bought the game. I played it so much the PS2 melted some of the plastic and rendered it useless.
Some faults to the game are that Jeff Gordon, and (the late) Dale Earnhardt seem to be ahead of the pack in almost every race. Also, you do not have a whole lot of control over what aspects of the car you would like to. I don't know a whole lot about cars, but I would like to know what the tire pressure actually does. Also, you can only play one year at a time. I would like to see it in a way where you can do several seasons in a row, then if your sponsorship runs out, you would be able to chose another one.
This game turned out to be a time burner, especially when you do a whole race. Doing a 2 player season is a lot of fun, because you never know whom is going to win a race, and you can see if you can beat your friend/brother/relative or whomever you are playing.
I hope you decide to at least try this game, and have as much fun with it as I did.
