skategoat7's Full Review: NASCAR 2001 for PlayStation 2
As a big fan of EA sports titles, I was quite surprised and disappointed by Nascar 2001. This game came in a PS2 bundle that I recently purchased.
I've played many racing sims in the past and I have to rate this one as one of the worst I have ever had the misfortune of playing.
Why did I dislike this game so much?
1) Graphics. Just plain sucked. It was blocky, jerky and the backgrounds just jumped up at you instead of smoothly coming your way. I've seen better graphics on Super Nintendo games.
2) Car control. Nearly impossible with the standard PS2 controllers. I had to learn to blip the controls from side to side to keep from smashing into the wall. On road courses, it was totally useless - the game simply cannot be played.
That was basically enough for me. I could not stand this game long enough to delve into any gameplay.
For me, the best racing sim out there is STCC2, which unfortunately is not available in North America.
