Pros:SSX Tricky is amazing, fun, and you'll find it hard to stop playing.
Cons:The "trick book" can be more than challenging at times.
The Bottom Line: More than just an upgrade from SSX: The greatest snowboarding game ever made.
I went to my brother's house the other day and I noticed that he was playing SSX Tricky. He asked me to play a game with him, and I accepted his offer. It was easy for me to contend because it was the same exact controls as in the original SSX. After I lost a few times to him I wasn't discouraged because I was so interested in the game.
After playing, I decided to buy the game for myself. Once I had the game I played nonstop. Every free second I had was spent playing SSX Tricky. It's such an easy game to be good at, and the changes that were made (such as "Uber" tricks) from SSX to Tricky are great.
Gameplay:
I would have to give the gameplay a 10. The game is so fun, and there are always new goals to fulfill. With so many new characters, there are so many levels to beat in both the showoff (levels are passed or failed based on how many points you can earn from tricks) and race modes. There are unlimited combinations of flips, grabs and spins you can pull off, and they are generally performed by pressing the shoulder buttons, the directional buttons, and/or square. The controls are awesome, and playing is top notch.
Graphics:
I would give the graphics a 9.5. In SSX I would say a 9, but in SSX Tricky they really made the game more 3d and vibrant. I actually had to turn down my TV's brightness because I found myself squinting at the remarkably bright graphics. The game's appearance and presentation are incredible.
Sound:
This games sound deserves a 10. The main narration is done by the beat-boxing champion, Rahzel. The character voices are done by Lucy Liu, Macy Gray, Oliver Platt, Billy Zane, and David Arquette. Their voices truly bring the game to a whole new level because it's fun hearing famous voices narrate the characters you are playing as. The sound effects are really awesome and cruising down the slope actually sounds like cruising down the slope. It's phenomenal.
Value:
I absolutely got my money's worth with SSX Tricky. Never have I spent more time on one game. I seriously played over 20 hours within the first week I had it, and I found that I had to pry myself away from it. I couldn't get enough. I never got sick of the game and it was always fun to race against my brother or friends. Although more fun if you can get a taste of 2 player mode, this game is worth it whether you have someone to play with or not. I highly recommend it.
If you want a game that will keep you entertained, and keep you playing, then you should go out and buy, or rent, SSX Tricky. This game has everything a sports game could ever need. Amazing graphics, sound, gameplay, and value. What more could you expect from the best snowboarding game of all time?
