mrpeabody1's Full Review: Swing Away Golf for PlayStation 2
To be honest, Swing Away golf would not originally have been apart of my PS2 collection of games if I had just read about it in reviews and seen screenshots. I got it as a present for Christmas and decided to give this baby a spin. Swing Away Golf is a great way to pass the time with your PS2 and is one of my favorite games of my collection. Why it hasn't recived as much attention as I think it should is beyond me.
The graphics are great with the weather even changing between holes. You can really feel how the rain affects how your ball rolls on the fairway or (hopefully not) the rough. The crowd watches your every move from around the green with lots of emotion shown. The trees gently sway back and forth as your hitting from your tee with the clouds rolling along by... there was a lot of attention to detail when creating this game.
Even cooler, you can even create your own course! Although you don't have TOTAL control over where everything is, you can still tell the game what type of hole your looking for and it will automatically generate it for you.
Another thing I like about this game is the camera. You have complete control when it comes to viewing the hole your on. If you want to see a close-up of your character, or look at the bark of a tree, you can. There are no limitations on where you can float around the hole EXCEPT when going over water.. I have no idea why but its not that big of a deal.
The music is catchey and will stay in your head for the day and you'll catch yourself singing it when you don't even know it. It's nice and it does suit the game. The characters also have diverse, but very competitive attitudes towards thier opponents making a one-player game interesting and doesn't have JUST the music playing through the entire game. You can also choose your own caddy who will give you tips on where to shoot.
For $35 bucks (I saw it over at Best Buy for that much) you can't get a better game for the amount of $$$. Great graphics, a good soundtrack, a good amount of courses (5-6 I think), and fun single and multiplayer modes make for a great, fun game for the PS2.
A light-hearted golfing title from the experts at T&E Soft, Swing Away Golf was one of the first sports titles announced for the PlayStation 2 and all...More at GameQuest Direct. com
