I don't know what the other reviewers were expecting, but I got a good Star Trek experience. I picked my players for the Away Mission, had an easy time understanding what my objectives were, and got a few twists and turns along the way. As long as you go in expecting a Star Trek squad-based mission setting where you control the actions of your team members (and not a FPS), then I think you cant go wrong. Especially for the price.
I played Elite Force, and it is a good game, probably better than Away Team. However, Away Team has some clever moments that I really enjoyed. I really liked sneaking my team around, being careful of the sound that my team was making. There is a unique feature in Away Team that I haven't seen done elsewhere of showing the sound cones that your team is generating. Sneaking makes the cone very small, but walking makes it larger and running makes it huge. The other people in the world respond to it as if they were hearing it from their location.
