I bought Giada De Laurentiis' EveryDay Italian Cook book because I watch her all the time on the Food Network. I think that she is a beautiful person who cooks with simple ingredients for the everyday person in the kitchen.
This book is introduced by Chef Mario Batali- another great italian cook who in his complexity also has some great recipes.
One of the reasons I love Giada is because you can tell that she genuinely loves to eat and cook. She is a true foodie. I have watched when she was in Rome, Italy and all over the US. She comes from a family where food was a big part of their lives.
I have used this cookbook and made quite a few of her recipes.
White Bean Dip with Pita Chips- Simple recipe, easy access to ingredients (just go to your pantry)
Roasted Bell Peppers- Roasted Bell Pepper Salad- Giada gives you the step by step on how to roast peppers (page 51)
Marinara Sauce- Great simple recipe for pasta sauce- I have made this recipe many times and it uses simple ingredients that you will have in your pantry and refridgerator. Giada uses this marinara sauce as the basis for the rest of the sauces
Simple Bolognese- A Delicious meat sauce that is easy to prepare.
Vodka Sauce- My favorite sauce. Extremely tasty and has the wow factor. Forget about buying a jar of vodka sauce after you make this
Risotto- Giada shows you how to make this classic Italian dish in a few different ways
Panna Cotta with Fresh Berries: A very elegant dessert that will surely impress your guests.
This is just a sampling of some of the recipes that I have tried. Overall, I find that Everyday Italian is a great cookbook to have in your collection. When you want to cook Italian, Giada will show you all the basics that you need to know. There is a place in her cook book where she even tells you what to stock in your pantry. Everything is easy and economical to find. You might surprise yourself.
