Pros: Cheap, razor/trimmer in 1, wet/dry, comfortable, trimmer doesn't clog.
Cons: Battery operation, not rechargeable.
I really hate shaving, and my beard doesn't grow fast enough to trim it every day, so I usually keep a goatee in the summer and a beard in the winter. I also hate having to clean up the bathroom sink, so I finally decided to just start shaving in the shower. No cleanup! The problem I have had, is trimming my beard in the shower. I had been using one of the cheap beard trimmers by Wahl for quite some time, but the quality was only so-so. It would clog up, you could not use the trimmer if your beard was wet, and the rechargeable battery life was terrible.
Recently, I was out of razors for my Gillette ProGlide, and while I was perusing the aisles at Target, saw the Gillete ProGlide 3 in 1 Styler. I decided to give it a try, and boy am I happy that I did!!!
The greatest thing about the 3 in 1 is that I don't have to use both a razor and a beard trimmer separately. This thing does both with a quick switch of the head. The product comes with the main trimmer body, a battery, 3 trimming combs, 1 ProGlide razor cartridge, and a handy organizer that holds all the stuff. Also, the kit comes with instructions that I frankly tossed out. Also, it uses the same razors as the non-3 in 1 Gillette ProGlide Power razors.
Using this tool is wonderful, it's slightly longer and a tiny bit heavier than the typical ProGlide Fusion Power razor, but I actually liked the extra length when the razor is attached, and the extra weight was a non-issue. Holding the trimmer/razor is very comfortable, both using it as a razor and as a trimmer. Honestly, the slimmer design and ergonomics are a huge improvement to the weight and square-ish design of most of the cheap beard trimmers I have used on the market.
I was extremely skeptical about the trimmer function of the ProGlide 2 in 1, but it is a Braun designed trimmer, and I have had a few Braun electric razors that I liked quite a bit in the past (I just find electric razors to be slower and just shave with razors now).
The beard trimmer function of this product absolutely blew me away!! I decided to run this thing through the ringer right off the bat. So, I took a full shower and then after being wet, tried out the trimmer-with my beard fully soaked. This thing didn't clog, catch, whine about it, nothing. Now, it definitely took a little longer than if it were dry, just because the hairs are somewhat matted down, but it cut like a Ginsu! To be honest, this thing worked better on wet beard hairs than my Wahl did with a dry beard.
The razor works exactly the same as any ProGlide Fusion Power razor does, which I find to be a comfortable shave. I have been using ProGlides for probably 10 years with no complaints, but I cannot comment on how it performs compared with other razors. It is also noted that these blades also have a single edging blade on the back to clean up the edges of the beard.
Overall, the actual trimming and shaving works flat out awesome with this product.
You get three different combs to trim your beard to different lenghts with the 3 in 1, plus when used with no comb, you get a fourth super-close trim. These combs just hook onto the top of the trimmer body and click on. Super easy. Changing them out, you slide a release button on the body up, and just unhook them, and click another on. Same with the razor attachment, just hook onto the tabs and click; then slide the release and unhook. All of the attachments and trimmer body have a little nook in the organizer that comes with the Gillette ProGlide 3 in 1. It is a good organizer, and it is stable when fully loaded with all the attachments and trimmer body.
This product does not have a built in rechargeable battery like many other trimmers on the market, but uses AA batteries. The good thing about this is, you don't have to worry about the rechargeable battery draining and eventually dying. So, considering you will always be able to replace the battery, I would not consider this a demerit, but a personal choice thing. As long as the thing works well, I don't really care how it is powered, and you could use rechargeable AA batteries if you have them.
Cleanup with this product is super easy, as I noted before it is a wet/dry use tool, and it can be used under running water. The trimmer head can be easily popped open to clear out any trimmings that have managed to get into the workings. This thing does not catch/snag or clog though, I just clean everything out after I'm done using it.
Overall, this thing has actually changed my life to some extent, and works better than trimmers that I have paid two or three times as much for. Now I do not use multiple things to get my shaving/trimming done, and it actually works better than the two tools I used to use! Typically, a multi-tool does lots of things for you in a compact footprint, but they usually don't do any one thing very well. In the Gillete ProGlide 3 in 1 Styler, you get to have your cake and eat it too!
